About The Inquisitor

What is The Inquisitor?

For time immemorial documentary interviewers have been positioning themselves uncomfortably close to the camera lens in an effort to keep their subjects' eye-line close to camera. This is done to establish a sense of intimacy between the subject and the audience, but despite its ubiquity, there are two problems with conducting interviews in this fashion: no matter how close the interviewer sits to the camera the eye-line is never directly into the camera lens, and the subject is often made self conscious by the obvious presence of the camera.

Eventually, a more perfect way of conducting interviews was developed. By placing the interviewer's face onto a tele-prompter, the subject can speak straight to a human image, obscuring the camera and helping the subject to relax. The drawback with such systems has always been that their weight and complexity limits their range of application. But now The Inquisitor's refinements have changed that. For the first time direct-to-camera interviews can be conducted while in motion. The results are both startling and fresh. Because the 'sit-down-interview' is such an old staple of documentary production it's reinvention opens the door to a new world of possibilities. From commercial testimonials to after-game-sports interviews, The Inquisitor offers a more direct way to connect subjects to their audience.

How does The Inquisitor work?

The Inquisitor is comprised of two halves: The Remote and The Staff.

The Remote is a camera with a tele-prompter, supported by a Steadicam. As the subject of the interview moves around they are able to interact with the interviewer, whose face is being wirelessly transmitted onto the teleprompter.

The Staff is carried by the interviewer, allowing him or her to see and interact with the subject.

There is a two-way wireless video and audio signal running between The Remote and The Staff. Just as the subject's image and audio is transmitted to the Staff, the interviewer's face and audio is simultaneously broadcast to The Remote, enabling the interviewer to see the subject and vice versa.
